U.S. inflation dropped to 2.5% in August 2024, marking the lowest level in three years. This decline, driven by falling gas prices and stable grocery costs, aligns with the Federal Reserve's target of 2% inflation. As a result, the Fed is expected to implement its first interest rate cuts in over a year, with a modest 0.25% reduction anticipated at its upcoming meeting. While core inflation remains steady at 3.2%, the overall trend indicates progress in controlling price surges triggered by the pandemic, offering relief to consumers and signaling a potential boost to economic growth

Despite these profits, Steward struggled with mounting debt and cash flow issues, which eventually led to bankruptcy. This case highlights the potential risks of private equity in healthcare, as short-term financial gains for investors often leave the healthcare system and communities vulnerable to financial instability and service cuts

"PwC to Cut 1,800 Jobs Amid Major Restructuring of Products Division"

PwC is laying off around 1,800 employees, marking its first major round of U.S. layoffs since 2009. This move comes as part of a restructuring plan targeting its products and technology division amid weakening demand for certain advisory services. The cuts represent roughly 2.5% of PwC's U.S. workforce, with roles ranging from associates to managing directors. The restructuring aims to streamline operations and position the firm for future growth in a challenging economic environment, following a strategic overhaul initiated earlier this year

"India Set to Impose Up to 30% Tariffs on Steel Imports from China, Vietnam"

India is set to impose tariffs of 12% to 30% on certain steel products from China and Vietnam to protect and boost its local industry. The new duties, effective for the next five years, target welded stainless steel pipes and tubes. This move follows strained relations between India and China after border clashes in 2020, with India tightening scrutiny on Chinese investments. Despite this, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar clarified that India remains open to Chinese business, provided it's under the right terms.
